I cant imagine Southgate would watch that game because of his Godson to be honest.

However, I do agree that its unlikely Bowen will ever be a regular for England, because of the high profile competition.

Thought first Newcastle goal was good skills from saint maxim and very poor defending in the middle.

Rice was quiet by his standards first half and totally bossed it second half.

Rice has the rare ability to get better as the matches go on. Few players do that. Just like at the England matches in the summer .

Good result but caught napping twice conceding similar goals.

I am sure this defect will be worked on this week by Moyes/Pearce.

Southgate was not watching Bowen for goodness sake.

His godson was making his debut in the Newcastle goals. Anyone think Bowen will get in ahead of Sancho, Saka and co is deluded. Not coz Bowen ain't a great player, it's coz Southgate and the England hierarchy are idiots.

Wasn't it from his interception we went onto score , in the 2nd half?

Didn't see the game, vaguely saw the highlights.

I said before the game that even though I was nervous as it was Newcastle, we have the same team that was a top 4 side last season if we had no injuries.

We showed that yesterday. Our heads don't go down. We know how to grind out success. We know how to score goals and impose ourselves on the opposition. Its a really well drilled 1st 11 we have.

You can tell we believe we can do it. Which is what matters at the end of the day.
Good stuff.

The media narrative is just standard when it comes to us, and they particularly have it in for Rice. You could see early in the game that he hadn't had a proper pre season (media darling Kalvin was rested for the Leeds game btw) so he was rusty at the start. However, he grew into the game and dominated the 2nd half, which we won 0-3

We all know the media can't wait for us to lose a home game 'because of the fans being back'. Wankers.

I thought it was a really entertaining match to watch. Some open football with players on both sides carrying the ball and taking on players. Ref letting loads go and the game being better for it.
We did look fragile at the back but once the nerves and pace settled down I thought we showed good technical ability, variety in our play and some intent.

The second half in particular was much more encouraging. Quicker to intercept balls, less backing off, good possession and breaking upfield in numbers.

We need to solve the penalty taker problem. It shows what a difficult skill it is to take these shots under pressure. Antonio has the power in the shot but he isn't looking at the keepers movement or trying to disguise where he is putting it. I'm surprised we didn't stick with Rice to be honest although others are saying Soucek has a decent penalty record.

After a shaky start and the obligatory Callum Wilson goal, it was a good turn around and scoring 4 goals against any side at this level isn't easy. That 4th goal Antonio smashed in seemed to lift all the tension. No desperate hanging on for the points with every defender on the pitch.

ASM played well i think, he got caught on the ball as he cant do it all on his own

Stick him in a decent team where he shares the workload he'd be outstanding

He'd be the first signing id try to make if new owners come in and want to show some intent

Great result and great start to the season

I don't think Newcastle are a particularly good side though they have a couple of very good players in Campbell and Saint-Maxim when fit

However, going to play in front of a packed house up there, where their players and fans were really up for it on the opening day of the season, then going behind after a few minutes, coming back, then going behind again and then coming back with 3 points, is quite an achievement for any side

Under Moyes, our players look fit as fleas, have an incredible team spirit, look well organised and just as importantly just don't know when they're beaten

The West Ham of old would have crumbled to an embarassing heavy defeat giving up after going 1-0 down after a few minutes in one of those off days up North, or just as likely, been 4-2 up and let in 3 goals in the last 5 minutes

It's the first time in the last 60 years that I can remember us having this sort of resilience and will to win

We have a lot of very good players in our team now but as the 2 sloppy goals conceded showed, we need reinforcements

Let's hope something happens soon before the transfer window shuts

Judging by the media you’d think he won them the game single handed……… but he did a cracking job of throwing the game second half.

I don’t get all the noise about Saint Maximum after the game. Granted his assist was fantastic but then he led to two goals by giving the ball away in silly places.

All motd and Twitter wanna talk about is him sending Rice ‘for a hot dog’ while completely ignoring him losing the game for them.

Such a strange mentality. If I were Steve Bruce I’d be fuming.

Steady I noticed that. Him and antonio produced proper lung busting runs whilst the Geordie defence trotted back

Superb performance. Fit as fiddles, focused, good football, plenty of backbone and all in it together for 90 minutes. A great start and put plenty of optimistic smiles on faces.

Watch MOTD and the 4th goal, Bowen sends it up from deep in our half to Benrahma who sets up Antonio. But watch the speed Bowen runs at after his pass and nearly catches up with play and the front two, I can see why Klopp rates him so highly

Had a chat with a sports journo friend tonight. Drinks in my local and works for a broadsheet. He says that Gareth would like to take a closer look at Bowen, which was why he was at our game rather than the Spuds. So expect him to be in the next friendly squad.

they have the same problem as us (kind of) in that yes, an injury to Son would blunt them up front. They, unlike us will have many millions to spend on a replacement for Kane, however.
